Not only that, it is also proving to be a successful cure to many diseases, many of which have halted progression after people who had high protein intake shifted to a healthier lifestyle. All age brackets benefit from vegetables which raises the importance of a balanced diet, allowing proper metabolism and expulsion of toxins in ther body. Some foods that contain free-radical inhibiting compounds prevents cells from dying prematurely allowing then to last longer thus healthier.

Postmenopausal Women With Elevated Insulin Levels have Higher Cancer Risk
The link between diabetes and breast cancer was suggested but till now, no solid proof of the relationship between the two diseases was solid. New research has found that postmenopausal women who had elevated levels on insulin such as the case with those who are diabetics have a higher risk of developing breast cancer due to the ability of insulin to promote cell division. As known, insulin intake increases as the human body gets used to the artificial boost necessitating more doses as the years progress. The developing insulin resistance within the body causes more of the substance to be present in the bloodstream leading to complications, one of them being breast cancer that was noted to be higher with diabetics.

Bisphenol Exposure in Mothers Permanently Modifies DNA of Offspring
More on the Bisphenol-A or BPA as it is more commonly used, the chemical that caused a stir in the medical community when it was linked to genetic abnormalities in children. The chemical is a common ingredient of polycarbonate plastics, commonly used in unbreakable plastic baby bottles and other children’s utensils that has a nasty ability to leach out of these plastics especially when heated. Baby bottles are normally boiled or steamed for sterilization purposes and that being the case, noticeable levels of the chemical leach into the fluids these bottles contain while boiling. The chemical substance has been linked to brain damage and other more serious physiological side effects that had the chemical and type of plastic, banned for use on baby bottles beginning with Canada. The rest of the world was awaiting more scientific basis and with these findings, permanent ban on these products for use on baby products and related food utensils.

Selenium …. Not in your Shampoo!
Selenium is an element that has long been used to treat dandruff in many shampoo’s, which is also very much present in nuts, grains and meats. It has also been found to be quite effective against bladder cancer, one of the many cancers that afflicts the digestive tract. New research is showing that in moderation, selenium is quite effective in preventing bladder cancer and is being targeted as a chemopreventive treatment for the disease that is responsible for a lot of deaths each year. The element is found to have a high interaction rate with a particular gene, the p53 gene which is used to diagnose the occurrence of bladder cancer. Alteration of the said genes is a sure sign of disease in the urinary tract which makes selenium a very important element for further study. (more…)

Vitamins, Useless against Cancer…. Really
Tagged as food supplements, vitamins and other health products have been proven to have no use in the prevention of any form of cancer. The study entailed randomized studies of various groups that took into account increased intake of vitamins, minerals and other supplements, most of which claim to have very effective cancer fighting abilities. This is of course met with staunch denials of the drug industry, most of which have their own lines of supplements. Even derivatives from plants have been found to have no proven health benefits (as the label says) with the exception of some proven anti-oxidant foods and minerals that are extensively researched and tested to do such. Who should get a HPV vaccine?
Human papillomavirus (HPV) which causes some cancer types (i.e., cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and anal) and genital warts can now be prevented through HPV vaccination. The HPV vaccine is given in three doses over a period of three months.

Health professionals urge early HPV vaccination for girls as early as 9 years old. This development is due to the fact that adolescents start to be sexually active at a younger age even before puberty. The vaccine could also be administered to women up to 45 years old except for expectant mothers since it poses risks to the unborn.
The vaccines offered in the markets does not treat HPV, rather it helps in the prevention of acquiring these types of viruses. A regular pap smear screening by an OB-GYN is still recommended for women even after vaccination since the HPV vaccine alone does not protect against all types of HPV.

UVB Exposure more Dangerous
We’ve all heard of UVA and UVB, the harmful part of light that the human light cannot see. Well, it turns out that UVB is more dangerous to your skin cell’s DNA than the first type according to new research results. Many people who get sunburn often go by without incident with a mild and painful rash. The only problem is that a non-melanoma incident greatly increases the chance of developing skin cancer later on in life. Sunblock is the easiest protection from such deadly a disease such as skin cancer and should accompany you whenever you go out into the sun, even for a short time. Avoiding prolonged exposure and those who live near the equator should stay protected from the hotter rays of the sun to prevent UVA and UVB from burning your skin.

A lot of methods have emerged which show promise in fighting off cancer. Psychologists believe in curing cancer through thought processes. By having a positive frame of mind, they believe that this disease can be fought. Laughter therapy is an unconventional treatment for this disease. There is a very touching story about how one person got over this disease just through having fun. A form of life threatening tissue disease or a form of cancer was diagnosed to Norman Cousins. Six months later, he was up and perfect astonishing his doctors just by an experimented idea of watching and enjoying Marx brother movies. Love, friendship and laughter can find a cure no matter how terrible the disease is. The best friend of an individual is hope and courage at any time and it is no different when some one is diagnosed with cancer. A complete healing will be guaranteed possibility if one has no panic and fights the disease with a joyous spirit.
