empathy.jpgThere is an urgent need for health professionals who deal with and treat cancer patients to get empathy training. Most patients have complained that doctors and other health professionals who deal with them when they seek advice and treatment are too bland and treat them improperly leading to psychological trauma which adds to the strains of the disease. This prompted the American Cancer Institute to recommend and initiate empathy training for health professionals to make them more human in the way they treat and deal with patients. It has long been an accepted practice for professionals who deal with health care to distance themselves emotionally from the feelings of their patients to prevent personal trauma yet this has many patients complaining about their attitude. Cancer as we all know is a very much dreaded disease that taxes a lot on the body and emotions of a person that adding more frustration due to unsympathetic people dealing with them causes more harm breaking the spirits of sufferers.
